Concorde
by Adrian Frutiger · design · 1964
unverified
a sans-serif typeface commissioned by Sofratype between 1961 and 1964, conceived by Frutiger but drawn by André Gürtler. it sold poorly and was withdrawn after a few years, but Frutiger later adapted it for the Roissy Airport signage commission in 1970, which became the basis for the Frutiger typeface released by Linotype in 1976. Frutiger wrote to Linotype's Mike Parker in 1970 that Concorde had "become perhaps a little bit too impersonal," signaling his intent to revise it.
