The Social Network

by David Fincher · film · 2010

The Social Network is a 2010 biographical drama directed by David Fincher and written by Aaron Sorkin, based on Ben Mezrich's 2009 book The Accidental Billionaires about the founding of Facebook. Sorkin's script clocked in over 160 pages, which was intimidating to executives and even to Fincher, and the cast had three weeks of rehearsal with Sorkin and Fincher before shooting, sitting at a table reading the screenplay and discussing the intentions behind the words and scenes. Trent Reznor and Atticus Ross composed the score, which won the Academy Award for Best Original Score. Fincher had used material from Ghosts I-IV, Nine Inch Nails' 2008 ambient album, as a temp score, and two tracks from that album were reworked for the film.
