Psycho

by Alfred Hitchcock · film · 1960

unverified

Psycho is a 1960 American horror film produced and directed by Alfred Hitchcock, adapted by Joseph Stefano from Robert Bloch's 1959 novel. Paramount refused to finance the project, so Hitchcock waived his normal $250,000 director fee and financed it himself in exchange for 60% ownership, then filmed it on a small budget in black-and-white by the crew of his television series Alfred Hitchcock Presents. in 1962, Hitchcock exchanged the rights to the film and his TV series for a huge block of MCA's stock, becoming their third largest stockholder.
