madvillainy is the only studio album by madvillain, the duo of rapper mf doom and producer madlib, released march 23, 2004 on stones throw records. madlib made most of the beats in a são paulo hotel room during the 2002 red bull music academy using a boss sp-303 sampler, a portable turntable, and a cassette deck. an unfinished demo was stolen and leaked fourteen months before release, after which doom re-recorded all his vocals with a more relaxed delivery than the original hyper version.

madlib sampled the chord organ melody from daedelus's 2002 track for the beat on accordion. daedelus recorded it on a magnus 391 electric chord organ, not an actual accordion, though the harmonica-like tone from its fan design gave the sample its signature sound.
“In 2002, Darlington recorded the melody on a Magnus 391 Electric Chord Organ for a song called "Experience" on their debut album, Invention.”
