by Rare · game · 1994

arcade fighter developed by rare and released through midway in october 1994, then ported by nintendo to super nintendo and game boy in 1995. the proprietary arcade hardware was co-developed by rare and midway, marketed as ultra 64 hardware but distinct from the home console that became nintendo 64. in early 1994, nintendo signed a licensing agreement with wms industries, midway's parent company, which enabled midway to develop and market games using the early arcade-based version of the ultra 64 platform, a three-way deal that gave rare coin-op distribution and nintendo pre-launch marketing for the 64-bit console two years before ship.
