A Fond Farewell

track seven on From a Basement on the Hill, Elliott Smith's posthumous sixth album released October 2004. smith recorded it between 2000 and 2003 across eight studios and two home setups in portland and los angeles; after his death his family hired producer rob schnapf and ex-girlfriend joanna bolme to sort through over thirty songs and mix the final fifteen, with schnapf doing the final mix at sunset sound factory where smith had tracked XO and Figure 8. smith completed the songs before his death in october 2003, but the estate retained final track selection from the 45 hours of material schnapf and bolme combed through.
